You can heal yourself by using essential oils via different methods. The concentrated essential oils are absorbed by the body via the skin into the bloodstream and/or via the nose.
Aromatherapists do not recommend ingestion of essential oils.
Because essential oils are so strong most must be used in combination with carrier oils if they are to be applied to the skin, except for Lavender and Tea Tree.
If the intention is to heal yourself by reducing stress, improving your memory, by stimulating sexual energy, by promoting meditation then the essential oils can be used neat (on their own or a combination of several oils) via a burner or perhaps in a bath.
You can use essential oils in a carrier base to apply to the skin, either localised application or a full body massage. A full body massage is just wonderful for stress, osteoporosis, muscular aches or just relaxation. Localised application could be for Bursitis, Arthritis, back pain, dermatitis, neuralgia etc.
Sometimes they can enter the body by both methods at the same time. That is, via aroma and skin application.
Because of this essential oils have a strong influence on our internal organs and the external parts like hair and skin in more than one way at the same time.
Say you have a bad cold. You can use essential oils to relieve the symptoms by using the inhalation method. That way you are both absorbing the oils via smell (up the nose to the sinuses) and also by steam entering the body via the facial skin, carrying the oil with it. Double whammy!

Using commercial products to relieve the congestion would result in more irritation of the sinus passages and it is only one way to enter the body, via the nose. And commercial products can only be used occasionally as they have a cumulative effect and end up damaging delicate nasal tissues whereas essential oils and water (steam) can be used as needed.
Using essential oils in a bath is just wonderful! The smell floats around the bathroom while you relax in the warm water. If you have added the essential oils to a carrier oil and then tipped some into the bathwater then you will also have the benefit of a moisturizing oil (sweet almond is just lovely).
Try them and see for yourself how good they are!
